COVID-19 Update – Appointments Available

The Barnabas Center for Counseling has served Savannah and the Coastal Empire for almost 25 years. There is a great need for families to get help to deal with depression, anxiety, and stress as we all cope with the effects of the Corona Virus (COVID-19). We offer individual, marriage, and family therapy for all ages, all of our therapist are state-licensed. We are currently seeing clients face to face in our office. Please know we will continue to offer telemental health sessions for those who desire it. We will be following Covid-19 protocols as we make this transition. Surviving the Holidays with Young Children by Cathy Clevenger, MSW, LCSW

Yes, you read the title correctly, “How to SURVIVE THE Holidays with young children.” While the holidays are crazy busy for all of us, I think that parents of young children likely have one of the toughest jobs in getting through the holidays and experiencing some of the joy, laughter, and precious memories. I am not a mother of young children, so I went to an expert, my younger sister. She has two boys, a two-year-old and a three-year-old. What I love about my sister is that she tells it like it is – the good, the bad, the ugly. She and her husband are going into their third year of holidays with little ones. I have made a list of her suggestions below. I hope that they are helpful to some of you.

Comparison: The Thief of Thankfulness By Bill Immel, LPC

During the holidays it is often tempting to think upon our lives in comparison with the lives of others.  This can happen at church, at work, or when visiting friends and family. In my experience counseling people from all walks of life, this happens probably the most on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram. 

Typically the way it works is that we see others with less whatever (ie home, cars, family, toys, friends, trips, health, even looks, etc) and we feel better. Then we see others with more of the above and we feel worse and all of a sudden less thankful.
